  • Spot the Metaphor

This workshop series is primarily designed for psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, naturopaths, homeopaths and anyone wishing to improve their skills in working with clients’ dreams.  Utilizing videotaped dreams, workshop participants’ dreams and The Dreamreading Method, this series focuses on various critical aspects of dreamworking.

CHRISTOPHER SOWTON, N.D., F.C.A.H. is a Naturopathic Doctor and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Homeopathy with a private practice in Toronto, Canada.  His practice is a blend of psychotherapy, active imagination and depth psychology with an emphasis on homeopathy and dreamwork.  He has been a faculty member of the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine since 1990, teaching the homeopathy program.  Dr. Sowton’s research over the last 10 years has culminated into The Dreamreading Method and The Dreamreading Manual.  He facilitates regular dream workshops & lectures in Canada and the United States.  For further information see www.dreamreading.ca.

    Saturday, March 24—The Birth Template
Whenever we try to create something and bring it forth into the world, our dreams use ‘the birth template’, taking us from the preconception of that idea through to its infancy.  This workshop focuses on dreams containing both birth and creativity with insights on how the dream is birthing and orchestrating an idea.
    Saturday April 21—Spot the Metaphor
One of the quickest ways to unlock the meaning of a dream is to spot the central metaphor.  This metaphor often appears as a figure of speech, a saying, a pun or word play.  For this workshop, participants are encouraged to bring in a dream of their own or a client’s dream where there is a possible figure of speech.

    Saturday, May 12—Overcoming the Blocks
Sometimes helping others work with a dream can be impeded by feelings of being lost within the dreamscape, difficulty in recognizing a metaphor, feelings of not knowing enough  or fear of taking the dream in the wrong direction and causing harm…In this workshop, participant will garner strategies for overcoming dreamwork blocks.

    Saturday, February 18—The Big Picture
Participants are given tools to develop the big picture--an internal mental map to recognize and distinguish types of dreams in order to better facilitate dreamwork.  The ability to take a step back to determine the particular dream motif (ie. shadow, personal spirit, rebirth, introject…) allows for streamlined, focused questions for the dreamer.

  • Homeopathy and Dreams

Dream information can be very helpful to the classical homeopath.   But, do we use all dream information equally and indiscriminately?  How do dreams and homeopathy fit together? Find out by joining us November 20, 2011 and learn how to apply the use of dreams to your practice.

This workshop will focus on the following topics:
    *    Which aspect of the dream is most useful to the homeopath
    *    Which parts of a dream should not be used in case analysis
    *    Which aspects of a dream can be repertorized
    *    What kind of dream indicates the presence of a miasm

  • Gone Rogue?

What happens in the human psyche when a part of it splits off from the whole being and starts to follow its own agenda?  Rogue parts appear in dreams as powerful and frightening figures that are capable of causing great harm to the dream ego.  Typically the power balance in the dream is such that the dream ego does not even think of trying to confront or fight back. In this workshop we will explore the psychodynamics of the rogue, show how it appears in the dream life, and discuss therapeutic strategies for healing.
